Southwest Lombok’s fabled ‘Secret Gilis’ is arguably the region’s most evocative island-hopping destination. However, good, flexible options cruising between these dozen secret islands has been rather limited – until now.
The Bali-built Anak Benoa is another distinct island cruising solution beyond the old outrigger boats or pricey private yacht charters. Launched last year, it is an eye-catching 26-foot trimaran with three hulls and an expansive eight-metre beam, meaning she can negotiate choppy waters with comfortable ease. With a consistent speed of eight knots, it unlocks so many more cruising options around the Secret Gilis and beyond.
It is fuelled by twin 20 HP engines as well as wind power when the sails catch a decent breeze. It’s the perfect size vessel for relaxed sailing for up to six guests. It has an open cockpit and nets for guests to get horizontal and soak up the rays while cruising between islands.
Primarily departing from Marina Del Ray Gili Gede, full day cruises are fully customisable with various pick-up points. Just pick where you want to sail to or let the captain decide and just go with the flow.
There are many ways to experience the various islands, hidden bays, coves and snorkeling spots around the islands and the wider Sekotong Bay coastline. Anak Benoa offers a range of half- and full-day sailing itineraries as well as a sunset cruise. This two-hour hour early evening sailing comes with drinks and tasty snacks. For any sailing, there is the opportunity to upgrade the experience with a drinks package inclusive of flowing beer, wine, and liquor.
A full-day island hopping cruise aboard Anak Benoa can encompass swim stops in picture perfect hidden coves, lunch by the beach, uncovering the best shallow reefs for snorkelling, or a day of deep sea fishing. It could also be a surf expedition to the world-renowned Desert Point surf break for serious surfers. All-day itineraries invariably include lunch by the beach and free time to explore islands like Gili Asahan.
